resource management:

watershed management

Watershed – or drainage basins – are a useful geographic unit to better manage the interconnected and interdependent resources of the ecosystem.  The integrated approach for resource management calls for the need to understand the interactive environmental processes at the watershed scale to balance the demand on the natural resources against the ecological, economic, and social stability and cumulative environmental effects.

Watershed management integrates different issues as it addresses the utilization, protection, restoration, and improvement of water resources, water quality, stream systems, lakes, estuaries, floodplains, forestry, aquatic resources, wildlife and vegetation, recreation, and hydropower.

Watershed issues require coordination and collaboration among multiple agencies and stakeholders, which are often achieved by forming Watershed Partnerships.  This partnership approach is a relatively new method of watershed management.  In this method, public agencies, organizations, and stakeholders work together in a community-based collaborative decision making framework.  This ensures that those who are most interested and most affected by the outcome of the decision are participants in the decision process.

At WRIME, Inc., we offer our services to you to build watershed partnerships for effective watershed management.  Our experience in the collaborative process and expertise in the tools and technology to analyze and interpret watershed data makes us uniquely qualified to serve our clients.  We believe that technology alone cannot resolve issues unless it is related and made consistent with the fundamental understanding of the natural, social, ecological, and economic systems.
